More than 60 Lions Eye Banks spanning 13 countries across the globe have been a saving grace for tens of thousands who have needed cornea transplants or other vision assistance.
The eye bank assumes all costs involved in procuring corneas, and there are no professional fees or processing costs to the cornea donor or recipient. It is vital that the cornea be recovered immediately after death, for the time limit is a mere few hours.
While the staff of the Eye bank are paid employees, board members are purely volunteers. “The greatest Compensation is the satisfaction in knowing that so many people are having their vision restored". Thanks to the cornea transplants that are made possible by the Lions sponsored medical facility.
